World's Greatest Jazz Band
WorldThe World''s Greatest Jazz Band was formed from musicians who played at Dick Gibson''s Colorado Jazz Parties in the mid-to-late 60s. Led by Yank Lawson and Bob Haggart and encouraged and supported by Gibson, these players formed a semi-regular group known as the Ten Greats Of Jazz (the name changing as the numbers varied). In 1968, the band became a full-time organization and settled on the name by which they were known for the next decade. In its earliest form, the World''s Greatest Jazz Band included Lawson, Billy Butterfield, Lou McGarity, Carl Fontana, Bob Wilber, Bud Freeman, Ralph Sutton, Clancy Hayes, Haggart and Morey Feld. Successful concerts and records kept the band busy and subsequent personnel changes maintained the high standards set by the originals. Later sidemen included Gus Johnson, Eddie Hubble, Bobby Hackett, George Masso, Al Klink, Peanuts Hucko, Bobby Rosengarden, Eddie Miller, Nick Fatool and John Bunch.
