Heliotrope Ragtime Orchestra
"It''s a Bear"
Heliotrope Ragtime Orchestra Home Page
Heliotrope Ragtime OrchestraStomp Off LP collectors will recall the five excellent recordings by the Chrysanthemum Ragtime Band.  Their leader/cornetist Bruce Vermazen along with pianist Bob Pinsker formed the Heliotrope Ragtime Orchestra in 2005 in order to play for the San Diego Vintage Dancers.  Since the orchestra plays mostly for dancing, this CD, their first recording, includes not only the usual fare for a ragtime orchestra, i.e. rags, fox-trots, two-steps and one-steps, but also some dance types not usually found on ragtime recordings: a waltz, a "Parisian fox-tango" and even a maxixe.  Altogether delightful music, beautifully played - joy abounds!  In 1910's slang, to call something a bear was to praise it.  In the parlance of that great ragtime era, this CD is truly "a bear."  Enjoy yourselves!

Great recording. Being a trombonist, I know personally how difficult it is to recreate the period of time that it was originally recorded. Kudos for doing this.
