Jim Cullum Jazz BandRIVERWALK LIVE, VOLUME 8: Deep River: The Spirit of Gospel Music in  Jazz. This one is close to my heart! Featuring the inspired  vocal artistry of Topsy Chapman and Nina Ferro, and including Riverwalk stars Clark Terry and Nicolas Payton, this collection features John Sheridan's arrangements of hymns and spirituals from the popular Jim Cullum Jazz Band  Jazz Mass such as Go Down Moses, His Eye Is On the Sparrow,  Down By The Riverside, and many more. The music heard on this recording is very important to me personally. For almost twenty years, the band and I have performed a program of gospel hymns. spirituals, and traditional sacred music in a jazz band style for services at Christian churches of all denominations - all across the country. This recording captures some of this music for you. My special interest is in the spirit that's in the music and the spirit that's in  the Eucharist. I bought this CD after seeing Jim's band perform a Jazz Mass in Fredricksburg. It's a wonderful piece of Americana and musical history. His band is a local and National treasure!
