Frisco Syncopators
Firehouse Stomp
Frisco Syncopators Home Page
Frisco SyncopatorsFor  jazz fans who take their traditional jazz seriously, the Firehouse Five Plus Two (later Plus Three) were a terrific  hot jazz band, who knew how to entertain while playing some  of the best honest-to-goodness straight ahead ensemble jazz  in the West Coast tradition founded by Lu Watters. On this  recording, the Frisco Syncopators pay a rousing tribute to  that great band. With the crisp two-cornet lead of Chris  Tyle and Mike Bezin, the Syncopators, who include alumni of  the FH5 George Probert and K.O. Eckland, rip through a  program mostly associated with the Firehouse, capturing the  same verve and energy (perhaps not quite the audacity) that  challenge - to try (but not too earnestly which would be  self-defeating) to catch that special joi de vivre  that was the Firehouse Five's for twenty years and ended  some twenty years ago. To your delight, the Frisco Syncopators did it!

Aside from the bell, and the tune selection, there's little comparison between this recording and anything the FH5 + 2 did. 2 cornets? It's cold, except for the drums and banjo.
