Down Home Jazz BandHal  Smith's Down Home Jazz Band, one of Stomp Off Records most  popular bands, appears here for the first time on Compact  Disc. Continuing their repertory effort to present the style  and tunes of the great Lu Watters Yerba Buena Jazz Band, the  DHJB renders twenty tunes that the Yerba Buena Jazz Band  played -but, interestingly, less than half of these were  commercially recorded by them. How do we know? From tapes made at live performances or radio broadcasts, Lu Watters'  original arrangements, and the recollection of Yerba Buena  clarinetist Bob Helm, who here joins the Down Home Jazz Band  in what many of us feel is his very best playing that has  ever been recorded - including his many records with Lu  Watters. This CD captures completely Bob's wonderfully  expressive and distinctive clarinet style (as well as two  delightful vocals). Fans of the Lu Watters Yerba Buena Jazz  Band will thrill to the power and excitement of the Down  Home Jazz Band.
